The Punthang Dechen Phodrang or Punakha Dzong stands in the middle of the Phochu (male) and Mochu (Female) rivers. Zhabdrung Nyawang Namgyal in 1637, the prophecy made by guru Rimpochee in the 8th Century, built it. The Puathang Dechecn Phodrang means “ palace of great Happiness. Punakha Dromchoe is dedicated to Mahakala, the goddess of death and Protector Of Buddhist monasteries, appearing in countless wall frescoes and relates story from 17th century when Tibetan army invaded Bhutan. The Dromchoe finale portrays the zest of the Bhutanese soldiers whom smitten with war the courtyard of the Dzong to fight the invading Tibetan.

Package Itinerary

Arrive at Paro Airport: After arriving at Paro International Airport you will be picked up by your personal guide and driver from Fly to Bhutan and drive to your hotel for lunch. On your first day in Bhutan you will drive to Thimphu, the capital town of Bhutan with en¬-route stops at Chuzom, and the confluence of the Thimphu and Paro rivers. Three different styles of stupas (Tibetan, Nepalese and Bhutanese) adorn this confluence. Upon arrival Thimphu check into the hotel Evening visit to Tashichhodzong, means Fortress of Glorious Religion. Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal built it in 1641. It houses the secretariat building, the throne room and the office of the king, and the central monk body. It was reconstructed in 1960s in traditional Bhutanese manner, without nails or Architectural plans.

Paro: Thimphu: Sightseeing at Thimphu - After breakfast visit the Memorial Chorten, a huge Stupa built in memory of the third King who reined from 1952-1972.Visit the Painting School where traditional art is still preserved. Artists are taught to paint Thankas here (sacred Buddhist scroll). Visit the Handicrafts Emporium where one can buy Bhutanese textiles and other arts and crafts. Visit Mini Zoo where you can find only one animal –Bhutans national animal – The Taken. Visit Buddha Point – where you can find a huge statue of Buddha. In the Evening stroll in the town. Thimphu- Punakha: Morning attend the Thimphu Festival and evening drive to Punakha via Dochu la. The route takes you pass Simtokha Dzong but you turn left at the crossroads and as you ascend there is a good overview of the dzong. On the way, halt at Dochula Pass (3080) for a hot cup of tea coffee and on a clear day, the most spectacular view of the Eastern Himalayas and continue drive to Punakha, over night at Puankha

Punakha (Sightseeing): visit Punakha Dzong, The Dzong straddles the confluence of two rivers and resembles a giant battleship. Its full name is “Punthang Dechen Phodrang” or Palace of Great Happiness” It was built in 1637 AD. And attend the Punakha Festival. Over night at Punakha

Punakha - Festival and afternoon short hike, Chimi Lhakhang, it takes around 20-30mins walks from the road head, through cultivated fields and up a gentle slope. This Temple was built by lam Drukpa Kuenley (The Divine Madman) in 1499.over night at Punakha

Punakha- Paro: After the break fast drive around 7km and hike to Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten which was consecrated in 1999 after a mammoth eight year construction period and even drive back to Paro, over night at Paro

Paro (Sightseeing): Hike to the famous Taktsang Monastery (Tiger`s nest): This is Bhutan`s most recognizable cultural icon perched 900m/2640ft up a seemingly sheer cliff. Although it was tragically and mysteriously consumed by fire in April 1998 it has now been restored to its former glory, the trail climbs through beautiful pine forest, many of the trees festooned with Spanish moss, and an occasional grove of fluttering prayer flags. We stop for a rest and light refreshments at the Taktsang Jakhang (cafeteria) and then walk a short distance until we see, clearly and seemingly within reach, Taktsang monastery. The primary Lhakhang was built around Guru Rimpoche’s meditation cave in the 1684 by the Penlop of Paro Gyaltse Tenzin Rabgay, this incredible monastery. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava, the tantric mystic who brought Buddhism to Bhutan, flew here on the back of a flying tiger, Dorji Drolo, said to be his favorites consort and evening walk around Paro city overnight at same Hotel

To protect against unforeseen accidents and mishaps, we would like to suggest and advise you to have a Travel Insurance policy from your country. The Travel Insurance policy should cover helicopter evacuation services and medical assistance. Flying to Happiness will not be liable for any kind of injury, illness or death during your visit to Bhutan either of trek or cultural tour.
