This Festival is celebrated in honor of “Guru Padmasambhava” one who was born from a lotus flower popularly known as “Guru Rinpoche” (The Precious Teacher). To commemorate this great event, the Paro Penelope Gragpa Gyatsho (Governor of Paro) in 17th century introduced a festival known as the Tshechu (festival) in Paro on the 2nd month of the Bhutanese calendar. As prescribed in the biography of Guru Rinpoche that the terrifying and peaceful deities are incubated on the occasion and instantaneously the doctrine of the religion is passed through the Tshechu dances to us, believing to convert the people into true believers who do not understand the deep meaning of the doctrine. Monks and layman perform these festivals.
