The Druk Path is wonderfully varied, beautiful scenery, good views of snow –capped Himalayan peaks, a monastery high up in the mountains. The route follows the original mule track that linked the Paro and Thimphu valleys. The trek begins at high altitude. Plan some extra days in Paro or Thimphu to acclimatize. Package Itinerary

Arrival at Paro international airport (Paro Local Sightseeing): The flight to Paro is one of the spectacular in the entire Himalayas. Whether flying along the Himalayan range from Kathmandu or over the foothills from Kolkata, the journey offers fascinating view and an exciting descent into the kingdom. Bhutan’s gift to you as you disembark from the aircraft will be cool, clean fresh mountain air. After immigration formalities and baggage collection, you will be received by the representative of Fly to Bhutan. Check in your hotel for refreshments and later visit Paro Rinpung Dzong, which was built by the founding father of Bhutan, Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646. Today, this fortress houses the Administrative seat of the district of Paro and the district Monk Body with about 200 monks. The central tower (Utse) of the fortress is one of the most beautiful in Bhutan with its superb woodwork. On the way back from the museum the beautiful Paro village invites for a stroll in the town. Visit Kyichu Lhakhang this Monastery was built in 659 A.D by King Songtsen Gampo of Tibet, as one of the 108 such Monasteries, which he built across the Himalayas to spread Buddhism. This temple marks the advent of Buddhism into Bhutan. Kyichu Monastery is located between Drugyel Dzong and Paro town. Overnight at hotels in Paro

Paro Hike to Tiger’s Nest: After early breakfast, drive to end of the road and hike Taktsang Monastery. A very special day, with an excursion to view the spectacular Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) monastery – After breakfast a short drive takes us to Satsam Chorten, from there a 2 hr. walk till the viewpoint point of the monastery. The trail climbs through beautiful pine forest, many of the trees festooned with Spanish moss, and an occasional grove of fluttering prayer flags. We stop for a rest and light refreshments at the Taktsang Jakhang (cafeteria) and then walk a short distance until we see, clearly and seemingly within reach, Taktsang monastery. The primary Lhakhang was built around Guru Rimpoche’s meditation cave in the 1684 by the Penlop of Paro Gyaltse Tenzin Rabgay; this incredible monastery clings to the edge of a sheer rock cliff that plunges 900 meters into the valley below. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava, the tantric mystic who brought Buddhism to Bhutan, flew here on the back of a flying tiger, Dorji Drolo, said to be his favorite consort and evening walk around Paro city. Paro – Jele Dzong: Today is a short trek. The trek begins above the National Museum; we climb until we reach camp. If the weather is clear the Paro valley and the snow-capped mountains can be seen. The campsite is near the old Jele Dzong. If the caretaker is there you can visit the Dzong. Altitude 10,900 ft; Distance 6.2 miles; Time 3-4 hours. Overnight at camp

Jele Dzong – Jangchulakha: The trek starts with a short climb and then passes through a thick alpine forest of rhododendron and gradually climbs until we reach camp. You may see yak herders around your campsite. Altitude 12,100 ft; Distance 7.5 miles; Time 4-5 hours. Overnight at Camp

Jangchulakha – Jimilangtso: The trail follows the ridge and on a clear day the views of the mountains and valley are beautiful. Our camp is close to Lake Janetso. These lakes are known for their giant sized trout, and if lucky, you may enjoy a well-prepared trout for dinner. Altitude 12,500 ft; Distance 10 miles; Time 6-7 hours. Overnight at Camp

Jimilangtso – Simkota: The trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron trees and Janetso Lake. You may come across some yak herder’s camps where you will have the opportunity to get a glimpse of a nomad’s life. The campsite is close to Simkota Lake which is famous for trout fishing

Simkota – Phajodhing: The trek begins with a gradual climb. If the weather permits, you will have a spectacular view of Mount Gangkar Puensum, the highest mountain in Bhutan and other Himalayan mountain ranges from Dochula pass. From this pass, the trek takes you down hill to Phajodhing for a nights halt

Phajoding – Thimphu: Walking down slowly you reach Thimphu in about three hours. Overnight at hotels in Thimphu

Thimphu (Cultural Sightseeing): After breakfast visits to Changangkha Lhakhang, National animal (Mini Zoo) visit Tashichho Dzong, means Fortress of Glorious Religion. Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal built it in 1641. It houses the secretariat building, the throne room and the office of the king, and the central monk body. National Memorial Chorten, continuously circumambulated by people, murmuring the mantras and spinning their prayer wheels. Construction of this land mark was the idea of Bhutan’s Third king His majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (the father of modern Bhutan) who has wish to erect monument to world peace and prosperity, Folk Heritage Museum, National library and in the evening drive back to Paro

Departure: Early breakfast, drive to Airport and farewell

Travel Insurance

To protect against unforeseen accidents and mishaps, we would like to suggest and advise you to have a Travel Insurance policy from your country. The Travel Insurance policy should cover helicopter evacuation services and medical assistance. Flying to Happiness will not be liable for any kind of injury, illness or death during your visit to Bhutan either of trek or cultural tour.
